Dedicated to the memory of Ann Rosina Bailey

This site is a tribute to Ann Rosina Bailey 1932-2023. Married to John Harry Bailey for over 50 years (1928-2013) with 4 children: Andrew, Veronica, Richard & Annette. Ann was much loved and will always be remembered by all her family, grandchildren: Amy-Leigh, Joshua, Phoebe, and Levi, maternal nieces: Virginia, Susie, great grand son: Oscar. All her god children, neighbours, friends and extended family.

Ann lived all her life in North London: Hornsey, Muswell Hill and Highgate, with many wonderful family memories of the seaside town Southwold in Suffolk where we has a holiday home for 40 years by St Edmunds church. Bonheur the house, was enjoyed by multiple generations of her family.

Ann went to Crouch End High School and later studied floristry at Constance Spry Flower School in 1952. Her first job was at The Dorchester Hotel arranging the flowers for guests. She was a member of Christchurch Choir, Crouch End and later St James Church Choir, Muswell Hill. She volunteered her skills with church flower arranging, enjoyed gardening and seeing ballet at Sadlers Wells & The Royal Ballet perform in Covent Garden. Ann supported charities: Save The Children, The Red Cross, Marie Curie, & The Royal Ballet.

Ann lived with her husband John, a chartered surveyor and family in The Chine, part of the Rookfield Estate in Muswell Hill from her marriage in 1961- 2017. The back garden, eventually recovered from children's sport activities and contained over 14 Clematis plants, ferns, a restful bench, marble family bird bath and a small pond inhabited with frogs and other small amphibians. She moved to a balcony flat at Trees: Hill Homes, Highgate from 2017-2023 where she excelled at the weekly art class, had fun at bingo, and continued gardening on a smaller scale; including growing sunflowers on her well tended balcony. Ann celebrated her 90th birthday last July with a wonderful tea party at Trees.

Ann liked reading mysteries & biographies. The Daily Telegraph newspaper, Hello & The Lady magazine. Her TV choice was varied from:Strictly come Dancing, The Crown, Dancing on Ice, Downton Abbey, The Durrells to Tennis, Snooker and Inspector Morse. Ann had a strong interest in classical music aswell as social and family history. Letter writing and celebratory cards were sent to family and friends around the world in Germany, Ibiza, USA.

With thanks to the The Reverend Timothy Miller from All Saints Church, Highgate who continued to support Ann’s Anglican faith whilst at Trees. This is reflected in her funeral service she planned for us to remember her by on 4th May 2023. The 2 two hymns chosen : Praise my soul, the King of Heaven & The King of love my shepherd is, are the same as in her marriage ceremony to her husband John at Christchurch Crouch End 1961. Roses chosen for her by her family: Dorchester, German, Bounty Way, Memory Lane, Super Bubbles and Cafe au Lait. Ann's flower paintings are also featured within the order of service.

Farewell to a wonderful mother, grand-mother and great grandmother; both regal and youthful, yet composed and funny, whose voice,  smile and laughter will be so greatly missed by all who knew and loved her; Her love of family pets over the generations included Marcel, Milli, Vader, Boo, Foxy, Ginger, Guy, Noel, Fluffy, Amber, Topaz, Peter, Rufus and Bonzo the tortoise who belonged to her grandmother.
